Career

Siwa was a top-5 finalist on the second season of the series Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition and the youngest contestant on season 2.[1] She appeared on the show with her mother and was eliminated in week 9.[2]
Siwa began auditioning for Abby Lee Miller's ALDC dance competition team in 2014 and was selected for the team in early 2015.[3] At the same time, she began to appear on the Lifetime reality show Dance Moms, which follows the ALDC team.[4] She departed the team and the show in 2016.[5]
Siwa's single, "Boomerang", was released in May 2016 for digital download and followed a previous single, "I Can Make You Dance". "Boomerang" addresses the subject of online bullying.[4][6] The music video for the song has been viewed more than 220 million times and over 1 million likes. In 2016, Siwa released her own line of accessories, including her signature hair bows. The bows caused a minor controversy in the United Kingdom after being banned from several public schools, who cited the distraction the bows caused

"Boomerang" is a song by JoJo Siwa, an American dancer and singer, a former Dance Moms cast member. It was released as a digital single on May 06, 2016.[3][2][4]


Musical style and lyrics[edit]

It is an upbeat song[3] that deals with the issue of cyberbullying. The song's message is to not listen to haters who write evil comments to you on the Internet and thus achieve a triumph over online bullies.[3][2][4]

Reception[edit]

On February 24, 2017, the single was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[5]

Music video[edit]

The music video directed by Monsee Wood was released on May 17, 2016. By mid-March 2017 the music video had been viewed on YouTube more than 200 million times.[6] On May 17, 2017, the one year anniversary of the "Boomerang" video JoJo released her new song "Hold the Drama". As of September 2017, the music video has been viewed over 340 million times on YouTube
