A Cuyahoga County jury has found Euclid resident Sierra Day and her boyfriend Deonte Lewis guilty March 7 on all counts in the death of Day’s 4-year-old daughter Aniya Day-Garrett.
Day, 24, and Lewis, 27, were both found guilty of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault permitting child abuse, three counts of endangering children, and tampering with evidence stemming from the child's March 11, 2018, death.
Euclid police and EMS services responded on the day of Day-Garrett’s death to the Cultural Garden Apartments, 22701 Lakeshore Blvd. in Euclid, for a report of an unresponsive child.
Police reported that Day-Garrett had burn marks and was emaciated and bruised. She was taken from the apartment complex to the Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office released the victim’s cause of death two days later. According to the office, the cause was cerebral infarction due to blunt impacts to head with subdural hematoma. She was also malnourished.
Day and Lewis had their trial in front of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Timothy McCormick.
The pair will be sentenced on March 20.
