When Michael gets a modeling job in Japan, he proposes to Maggie so they won’t have to be apart in his absence. At first, Maxwell is against the idea, because he doesn't think they've known each other long enough, but eventually comes to realize that Maggie is now an adult and is going to make her own decisions.
When the wedding day arrives, Fran has to be taken to the hospital after having contractions when she learns she has a chance to meet Barbra Streisand at the wedding. While at the hospital however, Maxwell tell Fran not to leave the hospital, but she does anyway. When she returns home, she gets a phone call from Maxwell and hears Barbra at the hospital singing with everyone. Fran is devastated, and the wedding takes place at the Sheffield home without Barbra.
